VividScience Objects Matter
In the post-modernist period, there was a generalized rejection of the significance of objects in favor of emphasis on interpersonal experiences. Science education, under performance and economic pressures and in the context of technological advancements, has rapidly developed nearly object-free online educational experiences, with dramatically altered forms of human-human and human-object interactions. VividScience explores the significance of using objects to develop, recall, and utilize science knowledge within individual and group settings. These objects include: science representations, natural specimens, classroom artifacts, educational toys, everyday objects, cultural pieces, art work, and craft/hobby items. Assemblages containing items across these object categories demonstrate the complexity of science and provide multiple access points for diverse learners.
