General Biology Welcome

VividScience Biology in the Round

In September of 2015 the new OSU LInC (Learning Innovation Center) classroom building will open, including a 600-seat lecture hall shaped in a circle around a center stage. BI 10x courses are currently held in Milam Auditorium, the only other 600+ seat space available for course use.

Winter term 2015 we polled BI 102 students on whether they would rather BI 10x courses stay in Milam Auditorium or move to the new lecture hall. Of 529 students, 74.1% voted to move to the new lecture space. In a follow-up survey, students have noted that the new "arena" round lecture room will pose design challenges and possibilities.

VividScience is addressing the move to the new round learning space as a multimedia assemblage opportunity. Art and design wlll be used to support teaching and learning within this potentially innovative space. (For more VividScience information, click the links on the left)

Updates on Biology in the Round coming Fall term 2015

To celebrate the 2015-2016 transition to the new round arena lecture hall, a Biology-in-the-Round content theme is being added to the Knowledge outcomes for BI 101, 102, and 103: "BI 10x students will be able to explain why round shapes are prevalent in nature and provide examples of round and spherical shapes from a variety of science disciplines.

List as many natural and manmade round objects as you can.
Consider why they may be round instead of other possible shapes.

Circles, Dots, and Spheres inhabit BI 10x
