One of the most important things to know on a computer is where you have stored things (this is probably true for the rest of your life as well). You need to be able to see your files and navigate through your directories. In addition, you need to be able to create, copy, move and remove files and directories. Finally, you need to be able to protect your files from unwanted intrusions.
The following sections discuss the Unix commands needed for file management and some of the more commonly used options.
