IV. Exams 1 and 2; the Final Exam and the Laboratory
Exams
Two fifty minute midterm exams (Exams 1 and 2) will be administered during the course, covering problems similar to those discussed in class and assigned from the text. Because exams are promptly marked and returned to students, no make-up exams will be given and a missed exam will receive a score of zero.
Exam Supplies: Bring one or two number two pencils, a calculator, and a good eraser to each exam. YOU MUST BRING YOUR OSU CARD TO THE EXAM AND PRESENT IT UPON ENTRANCE TO THE EXAM. Do not forget your OSU ID card. This is your form of ID and YOU MAY NOT BE ALLOWED INTO THE EXAM WITHOUT IT. If you bring notes, papers, or books to the exam, place them in a sealed pack and place the pack at the front of the classroom. You will be provided with a periodic table.
The Final Exam
Time: Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. Please be on time. The final exam is comprehensive and is designed to take about 110 minutes. A missed final exam will receive a score of zero.
Laboratory
You must pass the laboratory portion of this course in order to pass the entire course. A passing score is 60% or more of the total points available for lab. A missed laboratory will receive a score of zero. There is no possibility for a make-up lab. Before anyone enters the lab, they must pass a Safety Quiz which is on the Blackboard site for CH221SUMMER2010. A passing grade on the quiz is 17/19.

VI. Mastering Chemistry
Mastering Chemistry is the on-line homework system used in CH 221, 222, 223. All assigned problems, taken from your textbook, are given on the Mastering Chemistry website. It is an amazing program, nearly error free. Follow the directions below to purchase and/or register:
1. Go to
http://www.masteringchemistry.com2. Click on the Brown, LeMay, Bursten, & Murphy 11e book cover
3. Click on the Buy Now button if you want to purchase this online
4. Click on the Student Register button if you have already purchased your subscription
5. Setting your Student ID: Use your OSU ID number, enter this number with no dashes and no spaces
6. Course ID: CH221SUMMER2010 (note there are no spaces in this Course ID).
To receive full credit for the assignments on Mastering Chemistry, you will have to score 80%, as determined at the end of term on the basis of all problem sets. This is a collective average. Were you to score 20% on one set, it could be compensated with high scores on the remaining assignments.
VII. A Faculty Responsibility
Students with documented disabilities who may need accommodations, who have any emergency medical information appropriate for the instructor to now, or who need special arrangements in the event of evacuation, should make an appointment with the instructor as early as possible, no later than the first week of the term.
