On the other hand, to teach superbly, one must have exactly the same kind of arrogance that it requires to pick up someone else's baby. You must love them absolutely, and let that feeling shine through. You must believe utterly that, at least for the next few minutes, you are the best thing that ever happened to that baby. And, as you remove that baby from the safety of it's parents arms and carry it off into the great unknown, it helps if you have a shiny bauble to distract it with. For the second half of this talk, I want to share with you some of the shiny baubles that we use in the Paradigms Program to distract our students from the fact that we are expecting them to learn and reason in ways that are totally unfamiliar to them.
