Diseases Weather conditions in the Willamette valley offer fungi and bacteria an excellent habitat in which to flourish. Springtime conditions almost always provide sufficient moisture and temperatures for diseases effecting blossoms, foliage, and fruit. Listed below are the diseases one can expect to find year after year on fruit and ornamental crops at our facility: Apple: apple scab, powdery mildew, and Bull's-Eye rot Blueberry: mummy berry , ripe rot (anthracnose) and Alternaria fruit rot, Botrytis blight Cherry: bacterial canker, brown rot blossom blight and fruit rot, leaf spot, and powdery mildew Crabapple: scab Grape: powdery mildew and bunch rot Hazelnut: eastern filbert blight, kernel molds Peach: brown rot blossom blight and fruit rot, peach leaf curl, and shothole Pear: pear scab, and Pacific Coast pear rust Lilac: bacterial blight Serviceberry: Rust
