Syllabus
Lab Objective: One
of the greatest aspects of this course is that it goes beyond our intuitive
physics and into the realm of quantum mechanics. The labs in this class will
allow us to peer into this realm and explore some of the very same phenomenon
that where discovered by our famous fore founding physicists.
Requirements:
1. Completion with of all nine labs is required. 2. Reports are due no later than one week from the completion of the lab. (Late labs DO NOT EXIST) 3. Reports must be complete and on time to receive credit. 4. There will be one and only one makeup lab during the term. 5. Read the lab BEFORE class because there will be a quiz every day.
Lab Report Guidelines: Labs
are to be neatly written and present the results of an experiment in an orderly
manner. One of the goals of these labs is to have a record of your experiment
that you can refer to in the future. A read through your lab report should
allow someone enough information to understand the lab or possibly repeat
the experiment. They should have at least these following sections.
Title Name and date performed Section number or time Introduction and purpose:
Several sentences describing the main theme or final goal is sufficient.
Please do not simply copy the introductory material from the manual. Procedure:
Go through the steps required to perform the lab. This section should be
mostly the main steps and any obscure procedures that differ from the manual.
You can number, bullet, whatever as long as it is orderly and precise. Data Results: Interpretations, calculations and answers to all of the questions in the provided material. Error analysis:
All labs must have at least two sources of error clearly stated above what
the manual has asked you to complete. Any suggested remedies should also
be included here. Conclusions: Concluding remarks that summarize
the major results. Results of experimentation beyond the provided material
should be included here.
Grading: Complete
reports will receive the majority of the points. To receive full credit requires
original thought beyond the manual and an extremely well designed report.
Please feel free to discuss any score you receive. Each lab will be worth
a maximum of 10 points.
