Sun/Earth/Moon System Phenomena

After the students have provided written responses to the sun and moon diagnostic questions, the class takes a field trip to the parking lot just outside of the building to begin orientating themselves with the sky, the sun, and the moon. Four initial activities get the students to start thinking scientifically about the sun and the moon. First the students establish the cardinal directions, then they make an entry in their sky journals, then they begin making shadow plots, and tracing their shadows.
