Critiquing Websites

Reading

Over the course of the term, the students in Physics 111 explore a range of science topics in class. Their explorations and class discussions spark further inquiries about the subject matter at hand. After a certain period of initial exploration, the students are asked to search for information on the internet that might help them answer some of their questions. The students not only read and learn from the websites, but they also critique them for academic merit. There are thousands of websites related to the moon, for example, yet not all of them will provide accurate information. The students must critique the websites by identifying an author/source, applying their own background knowledge of the subject, and by discussing the ideas with their classmates. The integration of technology with literacy and physics helps the students develop more holistic understandings of the scientific phenomena.
