Fall 2009: Homework Week 10

Blackboard

How have you changed over the quarter? Think about all of the classroom explorations, homework, interviews, etc that we have done this quarter. Was there a moment when you realized a change in your thinking? Was there one single activity or event that changed the way you identify yourself as a person/teacher/learner that you weren't expecting?

Do you associate any new descriptive words with yourself after this class? It is perfectly acceptable to say “no” to this question but please still explain any changes that have occurred in your thinking/teaching/learning style or why they haven't changed.

1. Reading:
Hogan, K. (2007). How can playing with a motion detector help children learn to write clear sequential directions? In D. Roberts, C. Bove, and E. van Zee (Eds.) Teacher research: Stories of learning and growing (pp. 2-9). Arlington, VA: National Science Teachers Association Press.
(The file and two figures can be seen by clicking on the link below)
Write a reflection that includes: What is something interesting you learned from reading this article? Why might learning sequential directions be important for children to learn? How might you use this idea for yourself, or for your own classroom some day? Explain!

2. While reviewing for the final on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Room 204, design five questions that you think would be good representatives of learning in this course. Submit the five questions here and also post them on the Discussion Board by 9 am Monday morning. I plan to make up the final on Monday and will consider these.
