General Biology Welcome

Science Perspectives Exhibits

The arts are a gateway to understanding science.

BI 10x courses assist students in developing an informed perspective of science and the impact science has on the world we live in. The courses address the nature of scientific inquiry, characteristics of scientific knowledge, how science connects with other disciplines, and how we interact with science on a daily basis. In addition to weekly laboratory and recitation activities, students develop portfolios related to a series of rotating exhibits that are also available for public viewing.

Exhibits are based on OSU Senior Instructors II Lesley Blair and Mark Lavery's
VividScience work; using lively, distinctive, and rich representations of nature to engage a diverse group of learners. The exhibits are classified in three gallery groupings: Nature of Science, Art of Nature, and Biology Beyond the Classroom. These three exhibits utilize varied science artifacts to explore relevant, interesting, and arguably beautiful, science topics.

In addition to the on-campus exhibits, two on-line galleries will be available through this website Fall 2014 for continuing education and discussion: Natural History of Teaching and Field Guide to Learning.
