Vector Potentials
Note that this content inherited about 50 min from the Energy and Current hours
Prerequisites
To calculate the magnetic vector potential, students will need to know how to do vector line integrals. The following material may be a helpful review:
- GVC § Line Integrals
- GVC § Vector Line Integrals
- GVC § Use What You Know
- Reading: GVC § Magnetic Vector Potential–Curl
In-class Content
- Vector Potential A (lec - 10 min)
- Vector Potential due to an infinite line (SGA - 60 min)
- I found the parts of this activity that had students drawing vector field maps and relating back to magnetic fields they knew really useful, but I don't know that the initial bits where students wrote down the vector potential integral needed to be in small group style, and giving them the more focused prompt of drawing vector field maps and using circulation to get the curl/B is the way to go. I still feel like it was valuable coming before A ring
