Designing Motions

Emily asked the students to design motions which they would graph using the motion detectors. First, they each created a list of steps which they would later test. Next, they drew a prediction graph for what their motions would look like. Then, they acted out the motions while using the motion detector. Finally, they compared their prediction graph with their actual graph.
Some groups were excited to create their own motions and included many steps in their graph (moving away and towards, speeding up, slowing down, turning around) while others elected to create more simple graphs. Those who created simpler graphs (obviously) finished earlier than the groups which created more complicated steps, so I urged them to include some more complicated steps.
