Reflecting About Elementary Teaching Experience

Last class period we went to visit a 4th grade class to teach about light refelectivity. Each studnet had designed a worksheet and short lesson plan for a group of 4-6 students. Overall we had a great time with these students. Some common things that we (as a class) observed were:

  • the 4th graders knew more that anticipated
  • it's better to not lead the students through the activity but allow them to lead their own learning
  • don't directly anser the students questions but explore the question as a group
  • allow each student to say what they think and the knowledge they know, don't let the shy one be left behind
