Instructional Strategy-Small Groups
This article was the source for the students when they wrote about using sentence frames: Ross, D., Fisher, D., and Frey, N. (2009). The art of argumentation. Science and Children, 47(3), 29-31.

This article was published after this set of students explored small group dynamics, but it explains how to foster discourse in the classroom: Schiller, E. & Joseph, J. (2010). A framework for facilitating equitable discourse in science classrooms. Science Scope, 33(6), 56-60.

In small groups, the students discussed the various dynamics of small group conversations and collaborations. The students discussed group member roles, and how to facilitate respectful conversations.
