Reviewing Thermal Phenomena

Review of the thermal phenomena:

  • Objects left for a long time in a room reach the same temperature (room temperature)
  • Materials conduct heat energy at different rates
  • Styrofoam conducts heat slowly and is an insulator
  • Metals conduct heat quickly; metals are conductors
  • Conductivity: property of a material that refers to how quickly it conducts heat energy
  • Conductivity is different from density; conductivity refers to how fast energy flows through a material. Density refers to how much “stuff” there is in a given volume.
  • Hot and cold water reach equilibrium when mixed together.
