Review of Magnetic Phenomena
The students were given a problem in their homework which asked them to think about magnetizing paperclips.
Emily reviewed the following main points for talking about this kind of situation:
1. North and South domains can not be separated.
2. Goal is to align all North and South domains.
One of the students asked the question: “Does each paper clip magnetize the next one following it, or is each paperclip effected by the magnetic field?”
She answered her own question by saying her thoughts out loud: “It seems like if each paperclip magnetized the one next to it, the paperclip chain would go on forever!”
The intensity of the magnetic field decreases as you get further and further away from the magnet.
