Today we allowed the groups a few minutes to talk about the question they were asking about the moon over the last week and what their observations showed. Then each group shared their question and observations with the whole class. After each group shared I noticed that there were two different ways the moon was drawn. The first way was represented like a cookie where it looked as though a bite was taken out of the moon. The second is a a full moon drawn with the shaded section of the moon representing the part of the moon we cannot see at the phase. I drew each representation on the board to show how the “cookie” moon isn't a very accurate representation of what the moon actually looks like and how the full moon/shading drawing is more preferred. The other thing I wanted to remind everyone is that when they are looking at the moon they need to be facing South and recording their observations in their moon journals.
