a The instructor must be a faculty member in the department of chemistry (professor or instructor rank). Research credit for research projects in other departments or off campus can be obtained in two ways: 1) by taking the appropriate 401 course in the other department (e.g., BI 401); 2) by taking CH 401 with liaison between external faculty or researchers and your chemistry advisor as specified in the external undergraduate research policy webpage.
