COURSE GOALS
MTH 437/537
-
Students in MTH 437 will:
-
-
Develop the ability to interpret geometric models of certain physical
processes;
-
Develop a geometric understanding of special
relativity using hyperbolic trigonometry;
-
Develop a geometric understanding of line elements
(metric tensors) and their use in describing spacetimes;
-
Develop the ability to interpret simple matter models in
general relativity;
-
Develop an understanding of the consequences of Einstein's field
equation for the properties of simple spacetimes;
-
Develop a geometric understanding of simple black hole
models;
-
Develop an understanding of the properties of simple
cosmological models.
-
Develop an appreciation of the unifying thread brought to these topics
by the use of differential forms.
