Course Evaluation:
There will be (roughly) weekly homework as well as two take-home exams.
Course Description:
This course is an introduction to differential geometry, emphasizing geometric content rather than symbolic manipulation. The course covers: As time permits, we will apply these ideas in the context of two main classes of examples, namely Lie groups and Riemannian manifolds.
Prerequisites:
Elementary topology and analysis are needed to define the basic structures in this course, and should therefore be regarded as prerequisites even though much of the material can be understood without them. A working knowledge of multivariable calculus and linear algebra are also needed.
