Course Description:
-
This seminar provides a broad introduction to the Graduate Mathematics Program
at OSU, including both research and teaching aspects. Some class meetings
will be used for introductory research talks by faculty, while others will be
used to present and discuss information about teaching goals and strategies.
Assignments will include participation in occasional research and/or teaching
activities outside of class, as well as short writeups of those experiences.
-
Fall Term will be devoted primarily to teaching issues, Winter Term primarily
to research, and Spring Term will be split between the two.
-
Course Evaluation:
-
This course is offered on a pass/no pass basis only. Satisfactory performance
requires regular attendence (with no more than two unexcused absences), the
completion of three teaching activities (such as classroom visits), and the
completion of occasional short written assignments.
