MTH 255 Textbooks
-
The official textbook for this class is:
-
McCallum, Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, et al.,
Multivariable Calculus, 4th edition
-
This text was chosen because it emphasizes geometric understanding, and
becuase it has excellent problems.
Please note the following:
-
The material we will cover has not changed very much from the 3rd edition. If
you have a copy of the 3rd edition, you should feel free to use it. However,
it is your responsibility to make sure you are reading the correct sections,
and doing the correct homework.
-
Both editions also exist in a combined single and multivarable calculus
version (whose lead author is Hughes Hallett), which can be used instead.
-
We will not in fact follow the textbook that closely. It is possible to
succeed in this course without purchasing the text, although this is not
recommended. Should you choose this path, you should still purchase the Study
Guide, and you may wish to have access to another calculus text covering
multivariable calculus for use as a reference. It is your responsibility to
make sure you are doing the correct homework problems.
