   * Acacia Patterson is starting her second year as a Physics grad student at WSU in Brian Collins' group. She studies morphological mechanism for increased charge efficiency of ternary organic photovoltaics using resonant soft X-ray scattering at the ALS, NSLS II, and ANSTO synchrotrons.
   * Okan defended his thesis on Wednesday, September 15th - **congratulations Dr. Agirseven**!
   * Pritha presented her TiO2 work at the 2021 Symposium of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the AVS, and received an "Honorable Mention" for her presentation (and a cash prize!). Congratulations!
   * Okan is hard at work writing up the results of the Avrami exponent analysis; Pritha is getting results on the new SnO2/TiO2 system

  * Cameron has a job as an RF engineer at Summit Wireless Technologies in Beaverton - congrats Cameron!
  * Acacia won the Outstanding Learning Assistant prize & Okan's travel award was announced at the virtual awards ceremony. Congrats all.  Also, lots of pets.
  * Cameron Stewart B.S. and Acacia Patterson, B.S. are our graduating seniors - congratulations! Elena Wennstrom and Joseph Kreb will be continuing as 5th-year seniors.
  * Acacia will be attending Washington State University's Physics graduate program! Congratulations!
  * Rohal has been awarded a SURE Science fellowship - congratulations! (April)
  * WASH YOUR HANDS!! This pandemic has just started.
  * The Tate lab has transitioned to minimal experimental operations.  We are focusing on data analysis, paper writing and planning.
  * The covid19 pandemic hit, the MRS meeting was cancelled (and APS), we're meeting via Zoom, and we are using enhanced cleaning and social distancing.  We're also supporting each other and we will figure this out together. (March)
  * Undergrad Julian Wulf will join the group in Spring term - welcome
  * Okan's sputter precursor paper published in AIP Advances!! (February)
  * Okan and Pritha will attend MRS in Spring.
  * Acacia attended CUWiP at WSU and presented a poster.

== 2019 ==
  * Acacia attended PhysCon and presented a poster on electricial properties of TiO2 thin films.
  * Okan's paper submitted to AIP Advances.
  * Lab clean up day on June 28th.  Thank you Acacia, Elena and Okan.
  * Congratulations to Kelda on her job at Voxtel in Eugene!
  * Congratulations to Patrick for securing a spot in the University of Oregon AMAC program!
  * Kelda Diffendaffer B.S. and Patrick Berry, B.S. are our graduating seniors - congratulations!
  * Patrick and Kelda presented their talks at the Senior Thesis presentations on June 4 & 11 respectively - well done!
  * Elena Wennstrom, an undergraduate, will join us in the summer - welcome! She will work on a Brownian motion experiment.
  * Okan gave a tour to the Taft High School visitors.
  * Okan presented posters at the grad recruiting weekend and at the Yunker Lecture reception - what a great lab ambassador!
  * Patrick presented his work on optical properties of TiO2 amorphous precursors at the May meeting of the APS NW Section in Bellingham, WA.  Well done - first conference!
  * Acacia has been awarded a SURE Science fellowship - congratulations!
  * Okan was awarded a travel grant to go to ICDS - congratulations!
  * Okan submitted an abstract about the TiO2 sputtering work to ICDS30, to be held in July 2019.
  * James H. has joined Intel in Hillsboro as an engineer - congratulations! 
  * Cameron Stewart is an undergraduate working with us in the Winter; he will work with Patrick on the R&T measurements. Welcome!
  * Wenhao's nitrides paper, a CNGMD paper with Bethany and Janet as co-authors, has been accepted to Nature Materials. 
  * Joseph Kreb is an undergraduate working with us in the Winter; he will work on ellipsometry. Welcome!
  * Okan's poster won second place at the Graduate Showcase in February. Congratulations Okan!
  * Okan's & James's paper with John Mangum, [[https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0022309318306355|Selective brookite polymorph formation related to the amorphous precursor state in TiO2 thin films]], appeared in the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids in February 2019 - congratulations!
  * Izak McGiesson and Pritha Biswas are sitting in on group meetings in Winter quarter.

== 2018 ==
  * Acacia Patterson is joining the group as an undergraduate this Fall - welcome! She will work with Kelda on transport properties.
  * Janet is on sabbatical leave for Fall 2018 and Winter 2019
  * Aaron has a full-time position with PMIC, Corvallis - congratulations!
  * Bethany's thesis defense was on September 18th - congratulations Dr. Matthews!
  * Kelda did an internship at her parents' thin-film deposition business this summer.
  * Janet gave an invited talk at the Thomas Young Center at University College, London, in July.
  * Okan passed his preliminary exam on July 6 - well done!
  * Chris had a successful PhD defense on June 29 - congratulations!
  * Dinner at Janet's house 28 June to celebrate summer, degrees and the end of the year!
  * Bethany has a post-doc job offer from PNNL - Congratulations!
  * Bethany gave a nitrides talk at the SIMS/AVS conference at PNNL, June 18- June 22. 
  * James H. will be teaching in the intro Physics sequence at OSU this summer - he'll be busy!
  * The new polymoprhs paper has been submitted to J. Mater Chem - congrats Okan, James and Janet!
  * James H. defended his Ph.D. degree on 14 June 2018! Congratulations!
  * Aaron Dethlefs and Ryan Lance gave their senior thesis presentations in June - congratulations - and graduated - congratulations again!
  * James May is graduating this year and has a job with Boeing - congratulations! (Also became a dad - congrats again!)
  * Okan and Bethany gave talks at the APS NW meeting June 1.
  * Hypo Chen from SLAC visted our lab June 1.
  * Bethany is co-author on a nitrides paper accepted at ACS Combinatorial Science  that includes her work at NREL with Andriy - congrats!
  * Ryan has been accepted into the UO Masters Intern program - congrats!
  * Janet's Distinguished Professor lecture was in May 11.
  * Andriy Zakutayev visted our lab May 9-11 and gave a great talk on heterostructural alloys.
  * Grad recruiting weekend was Mar 9 - thanks for presenting posters & showing the labs.
  * Aaron is working with Linda from PMIC on Hall experiments.
  * Okan gave a poster at the grad research showcase at LaSells on Feb 8th
  * Hazel Betz is on an internship in New Zealand - working on Raman spectroscopy in TiO2!
  * Janet is invited to give a talk at the Thomas Young Center conference in July.

  * Sanga Kim, the Horiba field engineer, is here Wed-Fri Oct 25-27 to upgrade the Raman spectrometer.
  * Welcome to Kelda Diffendaffer, who is joining this term. Kelda earned her thin film stripes earlier than most of us - her family business is thin film coating!

  * The RERF proposal to acquire a variable-temperature stage for the Raman microscope was awarded!  Okan, James H. and Paul LeDuff (Rorrer group) will spearhead the acquisition.
  * Bethany was awarded the Whiteley Materials Science Fellowship! Congratulations again.

  * Annual Lab Clean Up done on April 4th for all labs. Seebeck Lab reorganized.
