In the previous years, we have always assumed that a student's request for
recommendation letters is equivalent to their implicit
understanding that information about them would be released. However, we
have become reminded of the FERPA act and the need to have an
explicit release from a student.

It is best if you also provide me with the current information about
yourself. A CV and statement of objectives and other such information
help to write better/more informed letters.

I need to know two weeks in advance of your deadline that you will
need a letter. Not that I spend all this time writing it, but there is
a line of people ahead of you.
