KBr Pellet Preparation

(Page 2)

Step 6.  Place the assembly into the holder bolted to the bench.  Tighten the bolts and wait two minutes. kbr5.jpg (54761 bytes)
Step 7.  Unscrew the two bolt.  If you were successful, the pellet will survive handling.  It should be translucent; it need not be perfectly clear (although that is desirable).

If it is still white, or if it is so fragile that it falls out of the holder, you are probably best advised to make a new one.

Step 8.  Place the pellet holder in the black plastic sample holder, and mount it in the spectrometer. kbr7.jpg (7910 bytes)
Make sure the laser passes through the pellet. kbr8.jpg (27369 bytes)
Step 9.  Make sure you clean the pellet holder, and dispose of the KBr mixture in the solid waste container. Place the holder and bolts back in the oven. kbr9.jpg (60954 bytes)
