Alkaloids

Alkaloids are an important class of biological organic compounds.  Often we find that these have important neurologic activity, although their participation in chemical signaling goes far beyond their effect on the brain.  One chemical observation we can make is that the electron donor properties of the amine nitrogen (e.g., in hydrogen bonds) is important to enzyme-substrate binding.
