Highlights of the activity

  1. This small group activity is designed to introduce students the geometry of the dot product.
  2. Students work in small groups to determine the angle between diagonals of a cube.
  3. The whole class wrap-up discussion emphasizes the interplay between the geometric and algebraic expressions for the dot product.

Reasons to spend class time on the activity

  • Encourages students to master both the algebraic and geometric expressions for the dot product.
  • Possible lead in to The Tetrahedron. (Also makes good homework problem.)
