Introduced Species in Oregon's Estuaries by Taxon

While large, common species are typically well studied,  microscopic and rare species are not. For many species, we lack data on their original geographic distribution and thus cannot determine whether they are native or introduced. The term "cryptogenic" is used for these species of unknown origin. Sixty six introduced and over 33 cryptogenic species have been documented by James T. Carlton for Coos Bay. Those found in other Oregon estuaries are indicated in blue.
