Leak Detector

The Tate Lab has a counter-flow helium leak detector purchased from Varian in 1990 or so. It works well, but it is old and must be treated well. OSU MASC members may borrow it on request, but you must …

  • know the principles of operation thoroughly.
  • be able to draw, from memory, a schematic of the valve system to demonstrate your knowledge (there is a schematic on the LD to help you, but you should know how it.
  • read the relevant portion of theLD manual.
  • use a cart with AIR TIRES to transport the LD to buildings outside Weniger Hall. The MASC clean room has one - contact Chris Tasker or Rick Presley.
  • have had instruction on the use of the LD by a member of the Tate group or an experienced user.

Location

Weniger 487. There also is a sniffer probe that allows you to flood the DUT with He and detect from the outside.
