In novelty filtering (image differentiation) experiments, only moving and changing objects are visualized.
For the novelty filtering demonstration, standard two-beam coupling geometry is used, but the polarity of the applied field is reversed compared to the configuration for image amplification. The resulting effect in steady-state is suppression of the transmitted image (as the energy is transferred from the signal beam to the reference beam), which is eliminated when the image moves (i.e. before the energy transfer occurs).A.
