Malgorzata Peszynska - Unix + Windows
MTH 655
LAB2: Unix + Windows = Cygwin
Synopsis
Cygwin and Cygwin-X emulate Unix and X-Windows on Windows
machines. This is useful to us because
- while learning Unix you can use your favorite editor (Word ?
MATLAB editor ?) and file manager
- you do not have to be set up on a different machine.
However note that in future labs you will use a different (remote) computer
and will ssh to it. (Please read about ssh and scp before next class. On
that remote machine you will be only using command line Unix/Linux
commands, and you will have to set up your environment).
In this lab you will use Cygwin to implement your first programs in Fortran in a Unix environment.
Implement = write Fortran code + compile it + run it.
