1.  Calculate the gravitational force on a Space Shuttle at its normal orbital altitude.

 

2.  When a space probe travels from the Earth to the Moon, it reaches a point at which the net gravitational force on it due to the Earth and the Moon is zero.  How far is it from the Earth at that point?

 

3.  A block of mass 2.5 kg hanging from a spring stretches it by 0.142 m.  (a) What is the spring stiffness?  (b) Suppose two identical springs with this same stiffness were attached to the block.  By how much would the hanging block stretch the two springs?
