Assessed student learning outcomes:
  1. The student will be able to recognize and name organic molecules containing C-C pi bonds and correctly describe how the bonding in these molecules imparts reactivity.
  2. The student will be able to recognize, and predict the reaction outcome for, common transformations of alkenes, alkynes and aromatic compounds with electrophilic reagents.
  3. The student will be able to describe reaction mechanisms for electrophilic addition to C-C pi bonds and electrophilic aromatic substitution in aromatic systems.
  4. The student will be able to assign the structure of an organic molecule based on its mass spectrum, infrared spectrum, 1H and 13C NMR spectra, and UV spectrum.
