Assessed student learning outcomes:
  1. The student will be able to recognize the structure of, and describe the bonding in, organic molecules.
  2. The student will be able to name and describe conformational preferences of alkanes, cycloalkanes and alkyl halides.
  3. The student will be able to recognize chiral and achiral compounds and assign stereogenic carbon as R or S.
  4. The student will be able to recognize and describe the reaction mechanism for free radical halogenation, nucleophilic substitution (SN2 and SN1), and elimination (E1 and E2) reactions.
