Nearly 100 years of parallel, synergetic development with quantum mechanics has, unlike with other physics subjects of the “classical” era, propelled thermodynamics into significantly exceeding its utile industrial revolution origins. As a result thermodynamics has gained enrichment, clarification and elevation to a dominant player in the developments of contemporary physics, chemistry, biology, aspects of philosophy and, surprisingly, even cosmology.

The purpose of this book is to explore the meaning and application of these developments to hopefully cultivate in students, teachers and readers alike, a modern perception and appreciation for this absolutely remarkable subject.
