The Grid
Highlights of the activity
- This small group activity is designed to motivate the relationship between integrals around boundaries and integrals over the interior.
- Students work in small groups to evaluate a particular integral around the boundary of simple regions.
- The whole class wrap-up discussion brings out the idea that such integrals contain information about the interior of the regions, in this case the area, providing a concrete example of Area Corollary to Green's/Stokes' Theorem.
Reasons to spend class time on the activity
Useful application of (or introduction to) the Area Corollary of Green's Theorem.
