Before entering this lesson, students should:
Have exposure to and understand postulates 1-5 of quantum mechanics.
Have experience using bra-ket notation and its representation in matrix notation.
Know what the $S_{x}$, $S_{y}$, and $S_{z}$ operators are in matrix notation for a spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ system.
