Main Ideas
- Electromagnetic radiation
- First and second law of thermodynamics
- Transfer of heat
- Black body objects
Students' Task
Estimated Time: 30 minutes
- Students are placed in small groups and asked to describe the interaction between two black body objects of different temperatures in a vacuum.
- The small groups must also determine how the interaction will change if one black body object is replaced with one that reflects one-third of the incident light.
Prerequisite Knowledge
- Familiarity with the first and second thermodynamic laws
- Basic understanding of electromagnetic radiation and its properties
- Basic understanding of black body thermodynamics is useful
Props/Equipment
- Tabletop Whiteboard with markers
