Energy is coming to us from the sun in the form of light. Today we explored the question: what happens when light from the sun shines on the earth? Some gets reflected, and some gets absorbed.
The students used light sensors to compare reflection from the water and sand. They also used the digital thermometers to measure room temperature water and room temperature sand.
The students let their computers graph for about ten minutes. We had some difficulty getting the graphs to show the power…text/html2012-04-24T11:39:02-08:00days:spring2012daybyday:spring2012day7:reflections

Student 1
Learned: I liked thinking about sand and water on a bigger scale (sand and water at the beach).
Wants to Know: I want to know more about temperature and how you can manipulate temperature with different materials.
Student 2
Learned: How to use an algebraic equation.
Wants to Know: Is there a way to tell how long it would take for the sand and water to become the same temperature?text/html2012-12-01T01:18:33-08:00days:spring2012daybyday:spring2012day7:reviewing_powerful_ideas

We began class today by reviewing where we have been and where we are headed with class. We reviewed the powerful ideas we have learned so far:
* Light rays leave a source in all directions
* Light rays travel in straight lines
* Light rays bounce off smooth objects like mirrors in a regular way (angle of incidence = angle of reflection)
* Light rays bounce off rough objects in all directions
* For someone to see an object, light rays must enter the eye
* Light rays form the s…text/html2012-04-24T09:34:57-08:00days:spring2012daybyday:spring2012day7:start
