1. Conduction
2. Convection
3. Radiation (new idea)
* Conduction: hot object is in contact with a cooler object, the heat energy flows from the hot object to the cold object (bottom of pan on stove or putting your warm hand on cold metal)text/html2012-11-01T11:13:02-08:00days:fall2012daybyday:fall2012day12:considering_the_influence_of_light_and_thermal_phenomena_on_global_climate

What happen when light energy from the Sun shines on earth?
First ask the class if they have heard about the Greenhouse effect and have their small groups discuss what they know. Then come together as a class to Explain the Greenhouse Effect:

Have students record moon observations from the last few weeks on the white board. And then have a class discussion with these questions:
- Who saw the full moon? (Monday evening)
- What phase are we in now? (waning gibbous)
- When should we be looking for the moon? (late evening, early morning)
- What phase are we likely to be in then? (3rd quarter is predicted to be on Tuesday)
- What’s special about 3rd quarter? (we’re looking at where we all will be in space in about 3/12 hours)

Have each group of two create a large and colorful poster for discovery days.
Group 1: Pinhole camera ray diagram and explanation
Group 2: Temperature probe graphs to be “made” (m’s, w’s, others?)
Group 3: Light sensor graph to be ‘made’
Group 4: On earth and from solar system view of 3rd quarter moontext/html2012-11-01T11:25:05-08:00days:fall2012daybyday:fall2012day12:reflections
