Activity #1: Sticky Tape Charges
Today we began class by looking over some of the homework problems that the students were having trouble with. Each of the problems involved electrostatics. They were asked, “you play with sticky tape and find that: A repels tape B, tape A attracts tape C, tape C repels tape D. If you know that tape D is positively charged, what kind of charge does tape B have?” All of the students were able to solve this problem after a short discussion and comparing thei…text/html2012-02-02T09:21:28-08:00days:winter2012daybyday:winter2012day7:powerful_ideas

A current will take the easiest route possible: a light bulb doesn't light when there is a path available without obstruction.
A battery doesn't have to be touching the light bulb-- wires conduct electricity.
A wire must connect the negative end of a battery to the positive end in order to have a complete circuit.text/html2012-02-02T09:26:18-08:00days:winter2012daybyday:winter2012day7:reflections

Student 1
Learned: More about circuits and exactly how they work.
Wants to Know: How will I create curriculum for younger kids? I still feel confused so I don't know how they'll understand it.
Student 2
Learned: The battery doesn't always have to touch the bulb in order for it to light. It can be connected through wires.
Wants to Know: What other ways can we use wires to create circuits?
Student 3
Learned: How much I forgot about high school physics!
Wants to Know: How long will this inf…text/html2012-02-08T12:28:04-08:00days:winter2012daybyday:winter2012day7:start
