Planing Elementary School Visit

Opening
Jessie: We're from Oregon State University, everyone will introduce ourselves, overview of what we're going to do, and quick description of the five centers that we'll be working at.

Five Small Groups
Following are the objectives/powerful ideas which our classmates hope to teach the 4th grade students:
Jessie: Talking about north and south poles, like things repel, unalike things attract.
Shyanne: The size of a magnet does not determine its strength.
Kelsey: The relationship between magnetism and electricity.
Kortney: Review objects which are and are not magnetic (not all metals are magnetic).
Lindsay: Magnetic animals- why do animals migrate?

Writing Prompt
At each station, after the students have had some time to explore, we will give them about a minute to reflect upon the following question: what did you learn and what do you want to remember?

Closing
Kortney: At the end of class students will have made it to all four tables and will have written short summaries of the powerful ideas that they understood. Kortney will be conducting a quick book talk for the students in effort to integrate literacy into the 4th graders' learning (also to spark some desire for them to continue learning about magnets).
