Students were asked to reflect upon the importance of using notebook pages in the classroom both in-class and at-home. In class, students collaboratively discussed the main points of the Gilbert and Kotelman (2005) article, and they generated ideas about the value of using science notebooks in the classroom. At home, the students re-read this article. As they solidified the knowledge they had gained in class about the value of using science notebooks, students reflected upon the article by using reading strategies that had been Introduced that day (Winter Course) or discussed during earlier class periods (Spring Course).
