Karen Higgins is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education in the College of Education. Her most recent projects were as a Co-PI on a five year NSF funded Mathematics, Science, Partnership (MSP) Grant which brought together 180 Oregon teachers, 90 administrators, and faculty from 17 higher education institutions in Oregon. A continuation of this work involved consultation through Teachers Development Group and the facilitation of two “Studio” Classrooms in mathematics (2nd and 8th grade).

Her research interests center around the teaching and learning of mathematics at all levels. Her grant work, in particular, has resulted in research on teacher moves that impact the role of classroom discourse and student learning, as well as the power of learning communities in mathematics professional development.
