Lawrence B. Flick, Professor (Science Education) Oregon State University

Dr. Flick has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, a M.A.T. from Northwestern University, and earned his Ph.D. in Science Education from Indiana University in 1985. Since 2004, he serves as the Chair of the Department of Science and Mathematics Education in the College of Science. In July 2011, he was appointed Dean of the College of Education. He has served as co-editor in chief of School Science & Mathematics and president of the Association for Science Teacher Education (ASTE). He has published in and served on the editorial review boards for Journal of Science Teacher Education, Journal for Research in Science Teaching, Science Education, and School Science & Mathematics. Dr. Flick has been awarded over $2.3 million in external funding from NSF, Department of Education, and Department of Energy. He has 41 publications in nationally and internationally peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and co-edited a book on inquiry teaching published internationally by Kluwer Academic Publishers. He was awarded the “Outstanding paper on the Implications of Research for Educational Practice” by ASTE and the Fred Fox Distinguished Service to Science Education Award by Oregon Science Teachers Association. He was appointed as Visiting Fellow at the University of Virginia's Curry Center for Technology and Teacher Education.
