TRANSFER TABLES OF CHEMISTRY COURSES TO OSU FROM Hawaii

For all Hawaiian schools, courses with courses numbers 1, 105, 111, 114, 141, 151, or 152 are not considered equivalent to any OSU general chemistry courses and cannot be used to fulfill the general chemistry requirement of any major or used for the chemistry minor. Students who plan to transfer to OSU and need general chemistry (CH 121 - 123 or CH 221 - 223) for their major at OSU, including science and pre-health majors, must take both CHEM 161 and 162 and all laboratory courses associated with these courses (e.g., 161L)(CHEM 124 - 125 with labs and recitations at Hilo).

All courses from Hawaiian schools are semester courses and the credits shown below are after conversion of semester to quarter credits 

Hawaii Community College  

Do not meet requirements for college general chemistry or as a prerequisite for CH 331 at OSU. 

The combination of CHEM 151 + 151L serves as a baccalaureate core course in physical science at OSU.

None of the chemistry courses are considered equivalent to OSU general chemistry courses.

Honolulu Community College

Do not meet requirements for college general chemistry or as a prerequisite for CH 331 at OSU. 

CHEM 151 + 152 is a GOB sequence and not equivalent to any general chemistry sequence at OSU. 

Do meet the requirements for college general chemistry or as a prerequisite for CH 331 or CH 334 at OSU. 

These courses do not convert to specific OSU courses. 

Students who plan to transfer to OSU and need general chemistry (CH 121 - 123 or CH 221 - 223) for their major at OSU, including science and pre-health majors, must take both CHEM 161 (& 161L)  and 162B (& 162L). Manual override required. With only CHEM 161, students must take CH 122 and 123 or CH 222 & 223 to complete one year of general chemistry. CHEM 161 plus 162 with the labs does satisfy the general chemistry requirement for the chemistry minor; because the sequence is only 12 cr, students may need more UD courses to reach 27 cr.

Kapiolani Community College

Do not meet requirements for college general chemistry or as a prerequisite for CH 331 at OSU. 

CHEM 151 + 152 is a GOB sequence and not equivalent to any general chemistry sequence at OSU. 

Do meet the requirements for college general chemistry or as a prerequisite for CH 331 or CH 334 at OSU.

These courses do not convert to specific OSU courses. 

Transfer students to OSU who need a year of organic chemistry including laboratory for their major should take the complete lecture sequence and lab sequence at Kapiolani (CHEM 272-273 and CHEM 272L-273L).  These four courses will fulfill the requirements of organic chemistry for students who are required to take CH 331, 332, & 337 and for three "upper division" courses including one lab course for the chemistry minor.  These four courses will also fulfill the requirements for chemistry majors  at OSU for CH 334-336 and CH 361. The organic chemistry courses from will articulate to OSU as lower division credit (LDT).

Kauai Community College

Do not meet requirements for college general chemistry or as a prerequisite for CH 331 at OSU.

Maui Community College

Students who plan to transfer to OSU and need general chemistry (CH 121 - 123 or CH 221 - 223) for their major at OSU, including science and pre-health majors or for the chemistry minor, must take CHEM 124, 124L, 124D, 125, 125L, & 125D.  

Organic chemistry

Transfer students to OSU who need a year of organic chemistry including laboratory for their major should take the complete lecture sequence and lab sequence at Hilo (CHEM 241-242 and CHEM 241L-242L).  These four courses will fulfill the requirements of organic chemistry for students who are required to take CH 331, 332, & 337 and for three "upper division" courses including one lab course for the chemistry minor.  These four courses will also fulfill the requirements for chemistry majors  at OSU for CH 334-336 and CH 361. The organic chemistry courses from will articulate to OSU as lower division credit (LDT).

Other courses

CHEM 333 or 341L fulfill the requirements for an "upper division lab course" in analytical chemistry for the purposes of the chemistry minor. CHEM 333 fulfills the requirement The combination of CHEM 351 and 352 fulfill the requirements for one year of physical chemistry (CH 440 - 442) for chemistry majors.

University of Hawaii at Manoa
