Determination of Magnesium and Selenium in Leaf Litter

CH 461 Special Project

Fall 2004

Abstract:

Concentrations of magnesium and selenium were determined in the leaf litter of White Oak and Big-Leaf Maple with a JY 2000 ICP emission spectrometer. The results were fairly consistent across the three sites studied, with the average magnesium concentration determined to be 2/53±0.6 g/kg dry weight. Selenium concentrations were below the detection limit for 10 out of 12 samples, and were not quantifiable.
