Abstract:

High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) was used to determine the amount of Taurine (2-aminoethanesulfonic acid) in various sports drinks and eggs. Detection was at 360 nm using three mobile phases and a C-18 column with guard. Absorbance was found through derivitization of the analyte using Sanger’s Reagent (2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene). Retention time of the Taurine derivative peak was approximately 9.5 minutes. The following Taurine amounts were obtained from our samples.
