Former BRG Member:

Eliseo Quiroz (Graduate Research Assistant) [2017 - 2023]

Eliseo Quiroz was born and raised in the Bay Area of California. He was inspired to pursue a path of chemistry by his late high school professor Dr. Oscar Lumpkin. Dr. Lumpkin was African-American who receive a Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University in 1966 during the rough civil rights era. Eliseo went on to receive his B.S. in chemistry from San Jose State University in 2013. While at SJSU, he conducted research under the guidance of Dr. Gilles Muller, and he investigated new lanthanide containing probes for Circularly Polarized Luminescent experiments to aid in protein conformation determinations. Eliseo was a part of the RISE (Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement Program) and LSAMP (Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation) programs at SJSU. Eliseo then went on to be an NSF LSAMP-BD fellow at California State University, Los Angeles where he conducted research under Dr. Carlos Guiterrez. Eliseo designed potential universal laboratory siderophores while he spent time at CSULA. In 2017, Eliseo joined the Blakemore Research Group at Oregon State University as a graduate student. His work in the BRG focused on the target-directed synthesis of terpenoid natural product molecules containing exomethylene units and including the sterol 24-methylenecholesterol and the sesquiterpenoid tricindiol.
